東華文澤學(xué)校是一所面向3-18歲學(xué)生的K-12國際學(xué)校，將提供表達(dá)創(chuàng)意、鼓勵好奇心、培養(yǎng)國際化思維的教學(xué)環(huán)境。校區(qū)位于東莞松山湖高科技園區(qū)，占地87,000平方米，2019年9月份正式開學(xué)。

Looking back on the school year so far, what have we done in the Primary Years Programme (PYP)?

In this article, Nathaniel talks about his experiences as a Grade 5 student at Tungwah Wenzel International School (TWIS). Let him take us on his PYP learning journey!

小學(xué)項目的學(xué)科

PYP Subjects

學(xué)校的小學(xué)PYP有8個科目，包括中文、英語、數(shù)學(xué)、科學(xué)、人文、體育、音樂和視覺藝術(shù)。但由于PYP的跨學(xué)科性質(zhì)，這些科目并不像傳統(tǒng)教學(xué)模式這樣單獨(dú)授課的，所以我們上課似乎沒有8個科目這么多。不同科目的老師會一起合作，把各科目整合在“探究單元”的教學(xué)主題中。

當(dāng)我們能夠?qū)W以致用，把不同學(xué)科知識運(yùn)用在考核學(xué)生的總結(jié)性評估上，這樣的學(xué)習(xí)就更有意義了。

We have 8 subjects in the PYP. These are Chinese, English, math, sciences, social studies, PE, music and visual arts. However, it does not seem like we have 8 subjects because of the transdisciplinary nature of the PYP. These traditional subjects are not taught in isolation. All my teachers work together to integrate the subjects into what we call Units of Inquiry.

Our work becomes more meaningful if we are able to use what we know in different subjects to perform well in our summative assessments.

Unit of Enquiry (UOI)

在五年級的班，我們剛完成一個關(guān)于“現(xiàn)代經(jīng)濟(jì)是日益體現(xiàn)包容性和可持續(xù)增長的全球網(wǎng)絡(luò)”的探究單元。在探索這個主題的階段，我們在人文課中了解到社會互動之間的因果關(guān)系與影響，包括貿(mào)易、外匯制度、政治，還有外交。

In Grade 5, we just finished the unit of inquiry on how “Modern economies are global networks that are increasingly interconnected for inclusive and sustainable growth.” While doing this, we learned in social studies the causes and effects of interaction among societies, including trade, systems of international exchange, politics, and diplomacy.

在科學(xué)課堂上，我們學(xué)了生態(tài)系統(tǒng)以及個人和社區(qū)如何利用科學(xué)來保護(hù)地球資源和環(huán)境。在數(shù)學(xué)課上，我們把計量單位從英制轉(zhuǎn)換為公制，也學(xué)會了不同貨幣的轉(zhuǎn)換方法，解決涉及計量和貨幣的數(shù)學(xué)問題。

In science, we learned about ecosystems and how individuals and communities use science to protect Earth’s resources and environment. In maths, we converted measurement units from imperial to metric; and converting different currencies and solving math problems involving measurement and currencies.

Appreciating World Literature

在這個學(xué)習(xí)單元中，我們閱讀了杰克·倫敦的經(jīng)典著作《野性的呼喚》，了解到1890年代克朗代克淘金熱潮中的世界。透過這本書，我們認(rèn)識到所有人都必須面對現(xiàn)實世界中存在的善與惡。

In this unit, we read Jack London’s classic book titled “The Call of the Wild” where we learned how the world was in the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. Through this book, we realized that all of us must deal with the reality of both good and evil as they exist in the world.

PYP小學(xué)課程有很多我喜歡的地方。很多時候我們的單元學(xué)習(xí)都有“親身體驗“的機(jī)會。我們會跟社區(qū)的專家交流，和實地考察以幫助我們了解探究單元的中心思想，讓我們深諳在課堂上的學(xué)習(xí)與現(xiàn)實世界是息息相關(guān)的。

I also like learning Chinese and celebrating major Chinese events. I am learning how to communicate in Chinese and write ideograms. I actively participated in this year’s lantern festival and Chinese new year celebration.

International Celebrations

作為一所在中國的國際學(xué)校，我們不僅要了解中國的文化，也要慶祝像國際圓點(diǎn)日這樣有關(guān)表達(dá)自我和釋放創(chuàng)造力的重要活動。我們也舉辦了冬季家庭集市，全校師生傾力參與演出。

As an international school, we are not just learning about our host country but we are also celebrating major events like the International Dot Day that is about self-expression and creativity. We held our Winter Family Fair with lots of performances from the entire school.

After-school activities

學(xué)校也有很多課外活動來培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的新興趣和技能，發(fā)掘熱衷的新事物。今年，我加入了烹飪、音樂劇和乒乓球俱樂部等。

I also love that we have a lot of after-school activities to develop new interests and skills, and discover new passions. This year, I joined clubs like cooking, the musical play and table tennis.

我想我最喜歡學(xué)校的地方是這里的老師。我們的老師都很幽默有趣，并盡力把教學(xué)變得有趣味和生動。上個月的5月4日，為了慶?？苹檬澜绾屯苿哟蠹业南胂罅?，我的老師在上課時都打扮成星球大戰(zhàn)的角色。當(dāng)然，這么好玩的事情不能只有老師參與，我們TWIS的學(xué)生也非常投入當(dāng)天的活動。

我真的很感謝所有老師一直支持和關(guān)心我們。我有很多新的嘗試也學(xué)到了很多。

I think what I like the best at TWIS is the teachers. Our teachers are funny and they try to make learning fun and engaging. Last month on the 4th of May to celebrate the world of science fiction and imagination, my teachers dressed up as Star Wars characters. Of course, we can’t let just the teachers have fun, the TWIS students did the same thing.

I really appreciate all of our teachers for being there all the time and caring about us. I have tried and learned a great many new and wonderful things.

Above all, what added color to this school year were my classmates and fellow students at TWIS who made my school life livelier and fuller.
