SWIS GOING GREEN

Dear SWIS Community,

At SWIS, we believe as a school we are responsible for promoting sustainability by developing an understanding of our environment within the community and its impacts as we encourage responsible and sustainable actions. To action this objective, we have started working towards sustainability solutions for SWIS to become a greener school.

As an IB continuum school, SWIS endeavors to actively engage students in learning and activities that align with the IB and SWIS’s guiding statements, which both give a strong focus on developing caring and responsible global citizens who help to create a better world for all. Within the curriculum, we have been looking at building a closer connection with the United Nations (UN) and their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For our green initiatives, in particular, we are connecting with the SDGs that deal with challenges of climate and environmental degradation. By doing so we develop within our students greater empathy for the environment and a stronger sense of responsibility towards taking action to preserve it.

Our Grade 5 Exhibition, Grade 8 Community Projects and student CAS experiences in the Diploma Programme (DP) provide many good examples. One example is the Plastic Recycling Initiative undertaken by our Grade 9 students Yaqing and Maggie. This initiative originated from the students’ Grade 8 Community Project and involved research, many discussions with school leadership, promotion, a detailed proposal, and a school-wide action plan.

In support of Yaqing and Maggie’s project, a SWIS parent donated a plastic recycling machine that has been installed on the SWIS campus. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Jeremy (Grade 3) and Jessica (Kindergarten) and their mother Ms. Wang Jingmiao for supporting our high school students’ green initiatives.

您好!我們SWIS致力于在課程和教學(xué)中滲透綠色環(huán)保教育，在校園開(kāi)展生態(tài)環(huán)保實(shí)踐，打造綠色環(huán)保生態(tài)學(xué)校。聯(lián)合國(guó)提出2030年前要實(shí)現(xiàn)17個(gè)可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)，繪制了全球可持續(xù)發(fā)展的藍(lán)圖，越來(lái)越多的學(xué)校把可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)滲透到所有課程中，在SWIS更是如此。在這些可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)中，遏制氣候變化和環(huán)境保護(hù)的議題與學(xué)生息息相關(guān)，最能通過(guò)學(xué)生的行動(dòng)發(fā)揮影響和帶來(lái)改變。

從我們五年級(jí)的畢業(yè)成果展，到八年級(jí)的“社區(qū)設(shè)計(jì)”，再到大學(xué)預(yù)科的 “創(chuàng)造、活動(dòng)與服務(wù)”(CAS)，學(xué)生們力所能及地把研究轉(zhuǎn)變成行動(dòng)，致力于讓世界變得更加美好。九年級(jí)Yaqing Su (宿雅晴)、Maggie Huang(黃芳淇)從去年開(kāi)始，利用做“社區(qū)設(shè)計(jì)”的機(jī)會(huì)研究和推廣塑料瓶回收，在老師的引導(dǎo)下，通過(guò)她們自己的努力，讓環(huán)保不僅僅停留在紙上，而是轉(zhuǎn)化為具體的行動(dòng)。

宿雅晴同學(xué)先是在網(wǎng)上發(fā)起簽名活動(dòng)，努力發(fā)動(dòng)全校社區(qū)參與塑料回收，還多次與學(xué)校高層管理團(tuán)隊(duì)溝通，希望得到學(xué)校的支持，并且積極尋找資助。在整個(gè)過(guò)程中，她表現(xiàn)出了一位優(yōu)秀的SWIS學(xué)生應(yīng)該具備的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)力、協(xié)調(diào)力和堅(jiān)持不懈的精神。她們的努力沒(méi)有白費(fèi)，三年級(jí)Jeremy Yan(閆禹謙)和K年級(jí)Jessica Yan(閆瑜烔)的家長(zhǎng)王晶淼女士慷慨解囊，給學(xué)校捐贈(zèng)了一臺(tái)塑料回收機(jī)。在此，我代表SWIS社區(qū)感謝王晶淼女士對(duì)孩子們的大力支持!

SWIS GOING GREEN

Alongside the plastic recycling project, our Secondary Student Council Green Team has developed an action plan focusing on waste and recycling. Their initiative has received support from the Primary and Secondary leadership as well as from the Logistics Department. We have ordered new recycling bins and have replaced the old bins throughout the campus. We hope to see every parent and visitor participate in this SWIS campus action on recycling initiative by using these bins.

Small steps make big changes. With every small step that we take, we are planting seeds of change and helping to create impacts within and beyond the SWIS community.

配合這一舉措，中學(xué)部學(xué)生會(huì)綠色環(huán)保小組也制定了一系列行動(dòng)計(jì)劃，得到小學(xué)和中學(xué)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)團(tuán)隊(duì)的大力支持。希望SWIS社區(qū)和家庭支持孩子們的公益行動(dòng)，從這件小事做起，在孩子心中播撒綠色環(huán)保的種子。

與此同時(shí)，中學(xué)部學(xué)生會(huì)綠色環(huán)保小組正在積極推進(jìn)SWIS垃圾分類(lèi)和回收工作，學(xué)校已訂制了特定的垃圾回收箱，希望每個(gè)踏進(jìn)SWIS校園的家長(zhǎng)和訪客身體力行，積極參與垃圾回收和分類(lèi)，支持孩子們的綠色環(huán)保行動(dòng)。
