Boy’ Soccer Team
from the Coach
On Thursday 29 August 2019, the RDF Middle school boys soccer team started their season. With only 3 training sessions prior to the game, the team did exceptionally well.
Skill, dedication and unity were all on display at the Shekou Sports Centre on a hot and humid day.
RDF played two games on the day where the first day was against BASIS. The team won the game comfortably by 6 goals to zero. This victory enabled the team to enter the second game against GOS with confidence.
The second game did not get off to a good start where RDF conceded a penalty and went down 1 - 0. The team showed perseverance and determination to turn the one goal deficit into victory, winning the game 4 - 2. Mike Liao with a clinical finish seconds before the final whistle.
Harry Peng secured the golden boat with a historic 5 goals in two games. Mike Liao also contributing with an impressive 3 goals on the day. Jason Liu, a new RDF player, also making an inspiring account of himself with two goals in a single match.
After the full time whistle, signs of relief and joy were felt by the team, it really was a memorable occasion.
Well done RDF!

Girls’ Soccer Team
from the Coach
The RDF middle-school girls’ soccer team had their debut last night at BASIS school, playing back-to-back games against BASIS and Green Oasis. In the first game, Melody Li played her heart out as goaltender, staving off shot after shot and keeping the team spirits high. Defensive backs Olivia McCarregher, Coco Hao, Amy Zhang, and Cici Lyu worked very diligently against strong, persistent attacks from the BASIS strikers. Zoe Wu, Genevieve O’Connell, Whitney Tippets, and other strikers fought hard but were stopped by the BASIS defenders.
Ultimately, BASIS managed to score 5 goals, before striker Shadow Chen, who spent most of the game constantly on the move, dashing and darting amongst the BASIS defenders, scored the first and only RDF goal of the game. The RDF players fought bravely until the end and accepted the 5-1 defeat with grace and respect.
In the second game of the day, RDF faced off against Green Oasis School. The match was excellent, and Zoe Wu took the opportunity to do some goaltending. The players used a different formation, with more players on defense, like Alice YIng , Cindy Zhu, and Fernicky Huang. The new formation was a big improvement and much more effective, so the match was very close throughout the first half. In the second half, Green Oasis managed to score twice, and RDF was unable to return the favor, leaving Green Oasis the victory at 2-0. Both teams played cleanly, without pushing, kicking, or bad language. All in all, the RDF girls really enjoyed the match and felt that it was challenging and worthwhile.
After practicing together 3 times, but for some after only a single practice, the 13 RDF soccer players came together as one team with one purpose,. Along with the returning veterans, were those who had only played soccer a little or not at all. They played with great heart and good sportsmanship, two of the greatest qualities of an athlete. All in all, they made their school proud and represented RDF very well.Go Eagles! Cacaw cacaw!
