讀單詞、寫(xiě)單詞是許多學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)的難點(diǎn),很多學(xué)生因?yàn)檫@一難點(diǎn)對(duì)英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)產(chǎn)生了畏難情緒,繼而惡性循環(huán)發(fā)展成了學(xué)困生。

Spelling Bee 英語(yǔ)拼寫(xiě)大賽始于1925年，如今已是美國(guó)家喻戶(hù)曉的英文拼字競(jìng)賽活動(dòng)。舉辦方多為學(xué)校自發(fā)組織或各州電視臺(tái)舉辦，選手通常要求是15歲以下并且最高不超過(guò)8年級(jí)(相當(dāng)于國(guó)內(nèi)初中畢業(yè))。這個(gè)比賽近年來(lái)除了美國(guó)本土參賽者外，也吸引了來(lái)自加拿大，新西蘭，中國(guó)的選手。

The Spelling Bee English Spelling Competition began in 1925 and is now well known in every household of the United States. The organizers are mostly schools. The participants are usually under 15 years old and are at the 8th grade or lower (before the third year of junior high school). In recent years, the Spelling Bee competition has attracted participation from Canada, New Zealand and China, in addition to the US native contestants.

今年6月份深圳諾德安達(dá)雙語(yǔ)學(xué)校舉辦了首次的Spelling Bee比賽，學(xué)校將通過(guò)班級(jí)賽，對(duì)抗賽，最后到校園賽，選出三位我們的拼讀達(dá)人，為他們頒發(fā)證書(shū)同時(shí)為他們的學(xué)院加多40分。

In June 2020, NAS Shenzhen held its first Spelling Bee Competition. Through three stages - class competition, inter-class competition, and a final school competition - three of the best spelling students were selected. They were awarded certificates and their representing house 40 points.

拼讀的力量

The power of Phonics

讀單詞、寫(xiě)單詞是許多學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)的難點(diǎn),很多學(xué)生因?yàn)檫@一難點(diǎn)對(duì)英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)產(chǎn)生了畏難情緒,繼而惡性循環(huán)發(fā)展成了學(xué)困生。自然拼讀法可以幫助學(xué)生們做到看詞能讀,聽(tīng)音能寫(xiě)。在諾德安達(dá)的教學(xué)中我們的老師運(yùn)用自然拼讀法能將學(xué)生從死記硬背的沉重負(fù)擔(dān)中解放出來(lái)。

對(duì)于中國(guó)的很多小孩子來(lái)說(shuō)，很多小孩是習(xí)慣了手寫(xiě)，拼寫(xiě)，而不是拼讀，因?yàn)橹袊?guó)的小孩子不習(xí)慣把英文直接發(fā)音讀出來(lái)，其實(shí)這點(diǎn)是錯(cuò)誤的，小孩子要從接受語(yǔ)音教學(xué)要根據(jù)聽(tīng)到的信息再拼寫(xiě)出來(lái)，這個(gè)過(guò)程是可以鍛煉小孩子的聽(tīng)力及理解能力。

單詞量是學(xué)好一門(mén)語(yǔ)言的基礎(chǔ)，學(xué)校為了培養(yǎng)和提高學(xué)生的詞匯量。我們希望通過(guò)這個(gè)比賽可以提升孩子們對(duì)拼讀的興趣，可以讓孩子們將拼讀作為學(xué)習(xí)單詞的一種習(xí)慣，而不是拼寫(xiě)。

Pronouncing and spelling English vocabulary is difficult for many Chinese students. With Phonics, students attach sounds to letters and letter blends. This produces a more concrete understanding of how to pronounce a word as well as how to spell a word. At NAS Shenzhen, the teachers use Phonics daily to help drive our student language acquisition and understanding. It frees students from the heavy burden of the rote memorization of vocabulary list as previously done.

For most of the students in China, spelling means memorizing the letters of a word. Spelling a word as a whole. However, letters actually make up the word and learning the letter sounds and how they fit together to produce different sounds within a word is a better way to learn the spelling of words. This leads a deeper understanding of the word, how to pronounce the word and how to spell the word. They learn how to spell words by how they are pronounced. This learning process is supportive of the students’ speaking and listening skills.

Vocabulary is the foundation of language learning. To help develop the students’ vocabulary, NAS Shenzhen designed the Spelling Bee competition to arouse their interest in words and to help them cultivate a vocabulary through Phonics and reading. The more a student reads, the more their vocabulary increases. Together, our Dragon Reading Competition, Spelling Bee and our Phonics program all work together to increase our students’ vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension, speaking and listening abilities.
