Dear All,

親愛的各位，

We hope you enjoyed a wonderful, restful break for Chinese New Year—or otherwise spent the CNY holiday in a fulfilling way. My family and I visited grandparents and enjoyed wholesome recreational activities. Many of you may have done the same. As I reflect on the past year,I deeply feel that family is the fundamental unit in a strong civilization.Wonderful conversations, discussions, and wholesome recreational activities can bind families together for generations. Service and renewing one’s commitments to love and serve one another is also a link that welds families together and helps heal families. There can be tremendous joy in such relationships.

我們希望您在春節(jié)期間享受了美好而寧靜的假期，或者以其他愉悅的方式度過。我和我的家人拜訪了我們的祖父母，享受了有益、健康的娛樂活動。你們中的許多人可能都做過同樣的事。正如我對過去一年的反思，我深深感到家庭是強大人類文明的基本單位。精彩的對話，討論和健康的娛樂活動可以將家庭團(tuán)結(jié)在一起。相互承諾，彼此扶持是聯(lián)系焊接家庭關(guān)系的重要紐帶，并幫助治愈我們的家庭。這種和睦的關(guān)系可以給我們帶來巨大的歡樂。

Importantly, we missed you! We are excited to begin school again. The campus is quiet now, but it will come alive as you return! We look forward to seeing you soon!

* Dress Uniform Reminder. During the Chinese New Year, the weather and temperature have become warmer. Please remind your child to bring all uniform clothing to school, including the dress uniform. We will have yearbook pictures taken in dress uniform in the coming two weeks.

* Attention Musicians! We are pleased to announce that a string orchestra and chorus from Lake Highland Preparatory School of Orlando, Florida will visit RDFIS in April. The director, Mr. Michael Simpson, is one of the most highly regarded secondary school orchestra directors in Florida, and he taught Mr. Dalal a long time ago! During their visit, our guests will collaborate with RDFIS students and then perform a concert of classical and popular music. If your student plays a musical instrument and would like to participate, please have them bring their instrument with them to school this week. In the next three weeks, we will meet with interested students and fit them to a musical position, if possible, and provide them music so they can begin to prepare. Many interested students will be able to participate, depending on their level of experience. We look forward to the collaboration and showing our international visitors many great things happening at RDFIS!

* USAD Team. Good luck to our USAD team(below) who are competing this weekend in Chengdu. They have studied the 1960’s, which was a decade of tumult and commotion. Despite the challenges of our day, we are grateful that there is significant peace among most nations. USAD students return to class on Tuesday. Good luck, scholars! Go Eagles!

* RDF Club Market. Students can learn about and sign up for RDF clubs on February 26. Grades 10-12 attend 7-8 PM. Grades7-9 attend from 8-9 PM in B-Commons.

* RDF Dance Competition. Begin preparing for the RDF Dance Competition, which will be held on March 25 from 7–9 PM. The individual competition will begin in the first week of March.

* Math Competition. Congratulations to scholars who participated the AMC 10 & 12 competitions on Feb 14. Many thanks to Miss Christina Xu and to our math teachers for their preparation of our students for this event. Results will be announced in coming weeks.

* Robotics Update. Our robotics team has almost finished preparing their robot for the Melbourne, Australia FRC competition. Today and tomorrow they are finishing their intake mechanism and lift mechanism, which are two major assemblies of our robot. The intake mechanism needs to be tested before installation, and they are starting the final assembly for the lift mechanism. Once these are finished, our RDF“Infinity” robot is close to finished. Finally, congratulations to our Mock Trial team, and especially the team President and Vice President, Vincent Zhao and Justin Wang, who organized a Mock Trial camp at RDFIS over the break. The event was very well carried out. Participants studied multiple cases and rehearsed court procedure. Long live judicial procedure and due process!
