Principal's Letter to Parents

Everyone is rested after the holiday and settled back quickly into routines and learning, even if the rain kept us indoors for part of the week.

農(nóng)歷春節(jié)假期結(jié)束后，大家的精神狀態(tài)都非常好，很快地投入到日常工作學(xué)習(xí)中，即使本周初陰雨天氣，也絲毫沒有影響大家對工作和學(xué)習(xí)的熱情。

ISA 國際學(xué)校學(xué)生評估(ISA)

Students from Grade 3 to Grade 9 have been taking the renowned International Schools' Assessment (ISA) this week. This measures mathematical literacy, reading and writing.

本周，三至九年級的學(xué)生參加了國際學(xué)校學(xué)生評估(ISA)。該評估以筆試的形式對三至九年級學(xué)生進(jìn)行數(shù)學(xué)、英語閱讀及英語寫作三個方面的測評。試卷內(nèi)容和評分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)均由外部人員設(shè)計及操作，他們會將最終結(jié)果報告分析返還到校。

The ISA results provide descriptive information about what students know and can do and the results equated from year to year show very good progress for SWIS at individual and school level. As a school, ISA lets us look for growth, trends, students of concern and compare our school to other international schools. Progress for all is our aim.

ISA報告為我們提供了學(xué)生學(xué)術(shù)情況的描述性信息，讓我們了解到學(xué)生已掌握的知識內(nèi)容及仍需努力的地方。根據(jù)往年的結(jié)果顯示，無論是學(xué)生個人或是學(xué)校整體，數(shù)據(jù)均呈現(xiàn)上升趨勢。作為一所學(xué)校，ISA報告讓我們了解到各方面的信息，如學(xué)校的整體趨勢、需重點關(guān)注的學(xué)生以及與其他國際學(xué)校的對比。我們的目標(biāo)是希望每一名學(xué)生均有明顯的進(jìn)步及提升。

It is important that we remember that external assessments, MAP and ISA, are only one data point. Students learn and develop at different rates and in different ways. These assessments represent a very specific moment in time and school-based assessments, alongside your child's class-based work, are more indicative of your child as a learner. Jennifer Wathall, our visiting Math consultant, was back to SWIS this week continuing her development of the PYP math programme. Teams of teachers and coordinators worked with her under the expert advice of Ms Vivian Wei our resident Math expert. We look forward to exploring best practice in our context and will keep you posted on our progress.

著名的國際文憑數(shù)學(xué)課程顧問Jennifer Wathall女士于本周再次到訪SWIS，協(xié)助我校PYP數(shù)學(xué)課程的實踐與運用。她與各年級老師、課程協(xié)調(diào)員及學(xué)校數(shù)學(xué)課程顧問魏老師會面討論，以設(shè)計出最合適SWIS的數(shù)學(xué)課程教案及運用實踐。我們將隨時與各位家長分享數(shù)學(xué)教學(xué)的最新進(jìn)展。

Everyone at SWIS wants the best for our students. To that aim, teachers meet after school to work on improvement committees. This week they fed back to their peers on what has been achieved and next steps. Our PYP committees are: Math Committee, Differentiation Committee, Science Committee, Assessment Committee, IT Committee, PSPE Committee, Events Committee, Language – Read & Writer Committee, Chinese Committee, School Environment Committee, and House/Service Committee.

SWIS的每位老師都希望學(xué)生們得到最好的教育。因此，老師們在下班后都會參與改善委員會活動。本周，每個委員會都在小學(xué)分部會議上分享了他們的委員會近期所取得的成績以及下一步的行動計劃。我們目前擁有這些委員會：數(shù)學(xué)委員會、分層教學(xué)委員會、科學(xué)委員會、評估委員會、活動委員會、信息技術(shù)委員會、語言(閱讀與寫作)委員會、中文委員會、環(huán)境委員會、服務(wù)委員會以及個人教育、社交、教育及體育委員會。

他們的分享真的非常精彩?？吹嚼蠋焸冊诮?jīng)過一天辛勤工作后，仍花費時間與精力去改善我們的學(xué)習(xí)社區(qū)，這更是凸顯了SWIS的學(xué)習(xí)社區(qū)精神以及學(xué)校的辦學(xué)理念。

Their presentations were moving. To see such dedicated professionals giving so much to our community after a long day's work, highlights our learning community spirit and the ethos of our school.

Literacy Month

讀書月

Reading competency continues to be a key factor influencing student achievement in all subjects, so please take next month's Literacy Month as an opportunity to firmly establish reading as a family endeavor. Watch out for notices from our library team and remember to ask teachers for ways to help at home.

"Happy New Year! What Does Literacy Mean to You?

新春快樂!“文學(xué)”對您而言意味著什么呢?

As Librarians and teachers, one of our many our aims, is to nurture and encourage a love of reading and writing, improving Literacy in our communities. Of course, there are many forms of literacy such as Financial or Digital Literacy, and many ways in which to develop these skills.

對于圖書管理員和老師們來說，我們的目標(biāo)之一，就是鼓勵大家熱愛閱讀和寫作，增強(qiáng)整個SWIS社區(qū)的文學(xué)素養(yǎng)。當(dāng)然，文學(xué)素養(yǎng)的形式十分豐富，比如金融素養(yǎng)和數(shù)字素養(yǎng)。與此同時，培養(yǎng)文學(xué)素養(yǎng)的方式也很多樣。

As SWIS families encourage their children to reach their goals, we want you to have conversations about how 'Literacy' plays an important role in success. We launch 2019 March Literacy Month and hope that you will participate as much as possible in all the events we have on offer for you!

SWIS家庭常常鼓勵孩子們?nèi)崿F(xiàn)個人目標(biāo)，借此機(jī)會，我們希望您與孩子們探討一下“文學(xué)素養(yǎng)”如何在成功中發(fā)揮重要作用。2019年3月是SWIS的讀書月，屆時歡迎您加入我們，積極參加各項活動!

We ask you to look at the daily bulletins for more information, specific times and locations for events and activities held during March. We start with the launch on Friday March 1st , inviting students to enter bookmark, short story writing, illustration competitions. The whole school 'Dress as your Favorite Book Character Parade' takes place on March 4th. We will have guest authors, Parent workshops, Poetry in your Pocket Day, Breakfasts with a Book, Book Read Alouds, Book Tents, Blind Date with a Book, Movie afternoons, Drop Everything and Read Random Moments, just to name a few.

希望您密切關(guān)注三月份的學(xué)校簡訊，以便了解更多相關(guān)信息，包括各項活動的時間和地點。我們將于3月1日(周五)開啟文學(xué)月，歡迎學(xué)生們參加設(shè)計書簽、寫小故事比賽和插畫競賽等活動。全校性活動——“書中人物大游行”，將在3月4日襲來。除此之外，還有作者見面會、家長工作坊、詩歌日、早餐讀書會、大聲讀繪本、閱讀帳篷、約會一本書、圖書館電影夜、拿本書就讀等活動。

Our SWIS students especially the EVERREADS group, will be leading many of the initiatives by interview authors, presenting at assemblies, guiding and supporting younger readers and sharing their projects with our community.

由SWIS學(xué)生組成的EVERREADS小組，將主導(dǎo)來訪作家的活動，并且在學(xué)生集會時做分享。同時他們也將為大家介紹小組為社區(qū)的孩子們提供閱讀，引導(dǎo)和鼓勵他們熱愛閱讀的項目。

Furthermore, our students have been entered into the Chinese Battle of the Books and they have been reading set texts for several months now in their Chinese classes. We look forward to sending a competing team away to represent our School. We will also have an afternoon of Multilingual readings and if you'd like to experience the different languages of our school community, please come along in the afternoon of March 8th. Also, don't forget that we're still running our regular Parent Book Clubs (in English and in Chinese) and you're most welcome to join these anytime."

此外，7-10年級學(xué)生已經(jīng)為中文閱讀擂臺賽準(zhǔn)備了良久，大家閱讀參賽書目已經(jīng)數(shù)月有余，現(xiàn)在終于要在擂臺上一決高下了。校內(nèi)獲勝者將代表SWIS參加珠三角地區(qū)的比賽。期待大家一舉奪魁。3月8日下午是多種語言閱讀時間，如果您想感受不同語言閱讀的魅力，歡迎加入我們。對啦，圖書館每月各一次的中、英文家長讀書會照常進(jìn)行，不要錯過喔。

Heath Tips 健康提示

As you may know that this is the flu season in south of China until April, it's important to know the difference between flu and cold. A cold is a milder respiratory illness than the flu, while cold symptoms make you feel bad for a few days, flu symptoms can make you feel quite ill for a few days to weeks. The flu can also result in serious health problems such as pneumonia and hospitalizations.

每年的冬春季都是南中國流感高發(fā)的季節(jié)，通?？沙掷m(xù)到四月份。在這一時期，區(qū)別認(rèn)識流感和普通感冒的不同有助于患者盡早康復(fù)。普通感冒是呼吸系統(tǒng)的輕微疾病，感冒癥狀一般會持續(xù)幾天，但流感癥狀則會持續(xù)一周以上或更長的時間。流感也可能引發(fā)嚴(yán)重的并發(fā)癥如肺炎或需要住院治療。
